Clover: "the current setting on the latest release is pretty bad, it’s just a solid color." Direction: read the Aero color, paint at about 80% opacity with appropriate fades, and keep icons legible. Target Windows 7; actual glass screenshots will be checked. The instant new-notebook crash is investigated separately.

Windows 7 now reads the Aero color and paints a translucent toolbar tint at 80% opacity, fading to 90%; icon rendering remains opaque. Actual D3D11 diagnostic captures measured panel alpha 0.800–0.890 and text contrast 5.22:1 light / 6.45:1 dark over adverse backdrops. Preview: https://file.paperclover.net/shr/snowbound/evidence/eda8a790491b-aero/comparison.png . These are explicitly simulated backdrops: the Windows 7 VM has DWM composition disabled and also passed the production Basic fallback. This issue remains open for the requested real-hardware Aero choice. The new-notebook crash is tracked separately in #121; it was not reproduced in the disposable Windows 7 tests.

Clover, 2026-10-15: "the fade in the win7 image is good. need to test it on aero." The lab VM can't show Aero. It's QEMU emulating x86 with a Standard VGA adapter, and Windows 7 only composites glass through a WDDM driver with 3D, which no QEMU display device has for Windows 7. The tint already ships, so any release since 2026-10-11-r5 (e.g. 2026-10-15-r34) shows it on a Windows 7 machine with Aero on. Needs Clover: a look on real hardware.
